WSP: Suspected drunk driver crashes while trying to elude trooper

AUBURN, Wash. – Four people were injured early Sunday when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and slammed into a tow truck as he was being pursued by a state trooper, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The incident unfolded at about 3:20 a.m. as a state trooper attempted to pull over a 2004 Mazda heading south on C Street, south of Auburn.

The driver of the Mazda, a 25-year-old Tacoma man, would not stop, and the trooper pursued him in his cruiser.

When the Mazda reached the intersection with Ellingson Road, the driver ran a red light and crashed into a 2005 Ford tow truck that was heading west through the intersection.

The driver of the Mazda and his two 19-year-old male passengers were all injured in the crash. They were taken to Auburn Regional Medical Center for treatment of their wounds.

The driver of the tow truck also was injured. He was taken to the hospital via private vehicle.
