TACOMA, Wash. — A woman who witnesses say ran down a friend in her SUV after an argument pleaded not guilty to two counts of second degree murder Monday.
The suspect, 33-year-old Denise Larkins, entered court Monday wearing a suicide vest. A judge ordered Larkins held on $1 million bail and to get an evaluation at Western State Hospital.
Witnesses told KOMO News the incident began Friday night with two women arguing in the street over gas money. They say the driver waited until her friend stepped off the curb before she gunned her engine.
Rhianda Dillon heard the commotion and stepped out to see a few women arguing near an SUV and Dillon says at least one woman seemed drunk.
“The drunk lady, the mother punched the driver in the face,” Dillon says.
Dillon says the woman who threw the punch then headed down the street on foot. The driver she hit followed in an SUV.
