Police: Drunk man assaults 2 rangers at Cal Anderson Park

A 51-year-old man is under arrest after he caused a disturbance and assaulted two Seattle park rangers during an Independence Day celebration at Cal Anderson Park, police said.The bizarre incident began Saturday at about 2:30 p.m., said Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt.The suspect, described as “highly intoxicated,” was at the park along with about 150 people, mostly families with children, who were attending the Independence Day festivities, Witt said.Suddenly the suspect jumped up on the performance stage and began causing a disturbance, police said.Seattle park rangers asked him to leave the area. He left but soon returned to cause another disturbance.The rangers again told the suspect he would have to leave and called for police.The suspect became irate and started swinging at the park rangers, striking both of them, Witt said.
