EVERETT, Wash. – A 47-year-old man was struck and killed late Monday by a suspected drunk driver who somehow managed to steer his car over a highway median onto a pedestrian walkway where the man was walking and ran into him, the State Patrol reported.
State troopers responded to the scene, on the Highway 2 trestle between Everett and Ebey Island, just a few minutes before midnight on Monday.
Arriving at the scene, troopers discovered that the 47-year-old pedestrian had been struck and thrown over the side of the trestle from the impact with the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation found that a 24-year-old Everett man was driving a 1994 Nissan Altima on the on-ramp to eastbound Highway 2 when the car left the roadway.
He driver steered the car over a raised median and through a raised dirt berm around secured metal pylons and drove onto the pedestrian walkway that parallels the highway over the trestle.
