Liquor Control Board to vote on keeping bars open past 2 a.m.

The State Liquor Control Board is deciding today whether it will let Seattle nightclubs and bars serve alcohol past the standard last call hour of 2 a.m.
The board took comments at public hearings around the state during the last couple months, and they will vote at their regular meeting at 10 a.m. this morning in Olympia.
Seattle’s push for extended bars hours started last year, when the mayor, city council and club owners argued that pushing everybody out at 2 a.m. isn’t working. They suggest staggering closing times for the bars would likely lessen the trouble with tipsy patrons streaming onto the streets.
However, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and some other citizen groups don’t think it’s a good idea.
“Nightclubs can stay open as long as they want, but why does it center around liquor?” says one opponent.
If the board approves the staggered closing times, it could mean cities around the state could petition for a change in the last call hours. View full post on “drunk” News
