Garfield students learn dangers of texting and driving with simulator

Students at Garfield High School were able to experience some real dangers of texting and driving with a driving simulator on campus Wednesday.
Students at Garfield High School were able to experience some real dangers of texting and driving today by sitting in a real car that doesn’t move, but allows the driver to look through special goggles that make it feel like the car is driving through a neighborhood.
“When I was looking down at the text, I kind of went off the road and hit a car and it crashed like twice,” said junior Breon Hines.
The project was funded by Peer Awareness Foundation and AT&T as part of the “It Can Wait” campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the dangers of texting and driving. Councilmember Bruce Harrell, chair of the Seattle City Council’s Public Safety, Civil Rights and Technology Committee was also at the event.
