First responders, drunken driving crash victims honored at Friday vigil

A crowd of uniformed law enforcement officers, elected officials, community members and relatives of drunken driving crash victims filled the Columbia Junior High School auditorium Friday night.
They gather year after year to remember and celebrate victims of DUI crashes.
“This is a tough place to come to,” said KOMO 4’s Keith Eldridge, who emceed the evening. “It’s a tough club to be a part of.”
Washington State Supreme Court Justice Charles Wiggins and Fife Police Department Chief Brad Blackburn presented awards to officers recognized by their departments for their efforts to curb drunken driving.
Sharon Reynon of the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI Victims’ Information Panel also spoke.
“Nobody should be killed by a drunk driver,” she said.
Law enforcement officers across Pierce County will make a special effort to catch drunk drivers. Beginning Thanksgiving Day, agencies across the county will make extra patrols in an effort to stop drunk drivers.
