EVERETT, Wash. – Six cars crashed and four people were injured early Saturday when a suspected drunk driver pulled a U-turn and headed the wrong way up Interstate 5 near Everett, officials said.
State troopers were called to the scene, on I-5 near Highway 526, at about 2:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a wrong-way driver and multiple collisions.
When troopers arrived, they determined that the chain reaction was triggered by the driver of a 1997 Plymouth Breeze.
The Plymouth originally was headed south on I-5 when the driver exited at the Silver Lake rest area, made a U-turn, then headed north in the southbound lanes, the State Patrol said.
The car made it a mile and a half heading in the wrong direction up I-5, sideswiping two other cars that were heading south.
